The paper deals with the absorption and resistance of the abrasive asphalt layer of the soil cover against chemical hazardous substances used or transported on the road in the Slovak Republic. Through the experiments, we verified the absorbency and resistance of the abrasive asphalt road layer (standard AC 11 O 50/70; II; V-5 samples) to chemical hazardous substances (for example diesel, petrol, kerosene, motor oil, acetone, ethylene glycol, nitric acid, ammonia water, etc.). The results of the experiments were analyzed and the binding of the chemical to the dry sample was determined in percent.

The specific surface areas of kaolinite, activated charcoal and talc cover a wide range of values, which are extensively reported in literature. Therefore, these three adsorbents were used in this study for comparison of the specific surface area measurements using two molecular probes in the dye adsorption method, namely methylene blue and brilliant green. Both dyes were dissolved in MilliQ water and the batch-equilibration technique was used to measure the respective adsorption isotherms. The equilibrium data was analysed using the Langmuir isotherm and the specific surface areas were calculated using the maximum sorption capacities for methylene...

Krízový Manažment 2019, 18(1):21-26 | DOI: 10.26552/krm.C.2019.1.21-26
The paper deals with the problem of self-ignition and self-heating processes focusing on the influence of properties of flammable substances and materials on the fire-technical parameter: temperature of self-ignition. Self-ignition and self-heating are processes where the heat needed for ignition of the substance occurs in the substance itself as a consequence of chemical, physical or biological processes. Self-ignition occurs as a consequence of self-heating in the volume of combustible material, a flammable set, where insufficient heat is discharged into the environment and vice versa, the heat accumulates in the materials. The process of self-ignition...

Security is increasingly becoming an instrument of organizations guaranteeing strength, stability and constant development. The security of the organization is affected by several internal and external factors. One of the internal security factors of the organization is the safety culture. The aim of this article is to extend the theoretical basis for a safety culture that can be used for further research of this concept. Examining the safety culture is conditioned by the knowledge of its determinants as identified and described in the presented article. The article further focuses on the models, pillars of the safety culture and its possible development...

Transport infrastructure is an important element of national infrastructures. All countries should ensure the protection of their critical transport infrastructures, so the aim of this article is to highlight the importance of creating a safety plan, and at the same time to provide a support for its elaboration. The safety plan and its particulars are enshrined in Act No. 45/2011 Coll. On Critical Infrastructure. A safety plan is a strategic document that describes the state of the subject's safety and proposes measures to increase it. It is important for operators to develop a high-quality and comprehensive safety plan to be able to respond appropriately...

Nowadays the area of EOD is highly important and topical. Therefore, companies are constantly developing new devices and procedures to advance this issue. Exhibitors from all over the world met at the exhibition center in Bratislava to present their news from this area. Many technical devices such as X-ray portable devices, spectrometers, protective suits, drones, or military vehicles have been introduced. An interesting category was robotic devices whose features and abilities improved incredibly. Most representatives demonstrated their devices on specific trials and demonstrations. Some companies and their products are introduced in this article,...

South Africa is prone to many types of disasters and social unrest is intertwined with disaster management and disaster risk reduction framework in South Africa. In this context, social unrest can be both a disaster in itself, it can a symptom of an underlying vulnerability or pending disaster; and/or a combination of the two. In this article, the authors attempt to illustrate the theoretical and some practical implications of disaster management and risk reduction dimensions of social unrest in South Africa. The disaster continuum model and the expand-contract model of disaster management are applied to the examples of the protests which impacted...

The article is focused on the problem of domestic violence. In the theoretical part, there are specifications of domestic violence, the identification of threatened and violent persons and the influence of violence on children. The work provides a comprehensive view of the issue as a whole-society phenomenon. The solutions were sought by means of anonymous questionnaires distributed among victims of domestic violence of different ages or education through a crisis intervention centre. The research was focused on identifying the most common forms and causes of domestic violence, its duration in a partnership relationship, or the presence of children...

The article summarizes the changes of the updated European Standard STN EN 60079-10-1 compared to its previous version. In the next part of the article, there is a summary and an elaborated procedure for determining hazardous areas. The basis is the correct classification of a leakage source and a leakage rate. An important factor in the determination of explosion hazard areas is the determination of the rate of leakage of the combustible substance, which mainly depends on the radius of the leakage hole. The assessment of ventilation and the dispersion of leaking flammable material contributes significantly to determining the zone type and zone range....
