CHANGES IN THE CLASSIFICATION OF AREAS - EXPLOSIVE GAS ATMOSPHERES IN OUTSIDE AREAS
- VŠB - Technická univerzita Ostrava, Fakulta bezpečnostního inženýrství, 17. listopadu 2172/15, Ostrava-Poruba
The article summarizes the changes of the updated European Standard STN EN 60079-10-1 compared to its previous version. In the next part of the article, there is a summary and an elaborated procedure for determining hazardous areas. The basis is the correct classification of a leakage source and a leakage rate. An important factor in the determination of explosion hazard areas is the determination of the rate of leakage of the combustible substance, which mainly depends on the radius of the leakage hole. The assessment of ventilation and the dispersion of leaking flammable material contributes significantly to determining the zone type and zone range. The whole article is an interpretation of the updated Standard and it offers a basic procedure for determining the type and range of zones.
Keywords: Hazardous area (on account of explosive atmospheres), Source of release, Grade of release, Release rate, Lower flammable limit, Grade of dilution, Reliability of ventilation, Type of zone, Extent of zone
