In this paper we present methodology and results of analysis focusing the preparedness of the inhabitants of Pezinok to cope with an emergency. The aim of this analysis was to assess the level of knowledge concerning the issue of civil protection, preparedness in terms of self-protection, especially among young people. The survey of knowledge of young people was conducted in the form of testing, which had been realized by the Business Academy in Pezinok. According to the results obtained it can be concluded that the training to deal with emergencies, crisis situations respectively, self-rescue and the provision of mutual assistance should be incorporated into the educational process of the secondary high school students. This could be reflected in an increased level of resilience of communities at the time of an emergency and at the time of possible need for their evacuation.
